美國總統特朗普的對等關稅生效不到24小時，突然宣布暫緩實施後，歐盟委員會主席馮德萊恩表示，歐盟將暫緩對美國關稅行動實施的第一輪反制措施。
歐盟原訂本月15日起對價值約210億歐元的美國商品實施反制措施，以回應特朗普政府對鋼鋁實施的25%關稅。
馮德萊恩在社交平台發文，稱希望給談判一個機會，儘管歐盟成員國強烈支持反制措施，歐盟仍決定將這些措施暫緩90天。
歐盟27個成員國大多投票支持懲罰性反制措施，其中部分將於4月中開始生效。
歐盟目前仍在評估如何回應特朗普的汽車關稅，以及仍然有效的基準關稅10%。
