This morning (1s April, 2020), a number of Hong Kong residents bearing the United States’ national flag went to the American consulate in Central to submit their petition, asking that the United States would demand compensation from China in Hong Kong’s stead, for all the adverse effects the Wuhan Virus have brought onto people.
The petitioners briefly described Hong Kong’s current condition to the consular representative, criticising the Hong Kong SAR regime for how its incompetence in treating the pandemic have had adverse effects on the economy and people’s livelihoods, impairing the lives of Hong Kong residents and affecting Hong Kong’s status as an international financial hub.
The petitioners also believes that the SAR regime is using the battle against the pandemic as pretext to carry out its autocratic rule, such as disallowing more than four people gathering together in public spaces; and hoping that the Americans can exact justice for both the people of Hong Kong and Americans in Hong Kong, by safeguarding their human rights and being mindful of any losses they may have.
The consulate sent a representative to accept their petition.
