In response to suggestion of resignation in leaked recording, Carrie Lam claimed that she “never tried to resign”

A voice recording, suspected to be that of Carrie Lam’s, was leaked earlier, in which she said that she would quit if she had a choice. In meeting the press this morning (3rd September, 2019), Carrie Lam claimed that she never offered to resign and that it is unacceptable her remarks at a totally private and exclusive session were leaked.

In the press conference, when Carrie Lam was questioned by reporters into the authenticity of the resignation recording, she responded that it is quite unacceptable that her remarks at a totally private, closed-door luncheon was leaked, as it was subject to Chatham House rules, but her words during the meeting carried no special meaning. She affirmed that she had never offered her resignation to Beijing.

Lam also pointed out that, having had a “journey of the heart” during the recent social upheaval, she wanted to share it while in a private meeting, but she has confidence that she can still lead her team  out of this dilemma, founded upon her ability to take Hong Kong out of these difficult times.
